Thank you Jeff Cymbler for translation:

We are starting with a new series of lectures, meetings and discussions at the historic Jewish house of prayer, the seat of the Brama Cukermana foundation in Będzin.

SZUL. House of meetings and learning.

SZUL is a program devoted to local and regional history and cultural heritage, which will be implemented by historians, researchers, writers, artists and enthusiasts. The topics of the meetings are the rich, multicultural history of the lands of the present Silesian Voivodeship, i.e. the former Silesian-Dąbrowski border, but also the issues of material heritage, its protection and importance for local communities. The meetings will enable the recipients to get to know the unknown and interesting world.
The word SZUL in the title of the project directly refers to the historical character of the meeting place – the former Jewish house of prayer in the so-called The Cukerman Gate in Będzin. The word SZUL in Yiddish meant a small synagogue. Before the Second World War, such places, apart from obviously religious ones, also had numerous social, integration and educational functions. We want to symbolically refer to this aspect of history in order to involve the inhabitants of the city and the region in the activities carried out here, and at the same time to sensitize them to history and stimulate openness, hospitality and tolerance.

SZUL is open to everyone – residents of the city and the region – interested in local history and cultural heritage.
