Festival Award for Karolina Jakoweńko

Award for Karolina Jakoweńko opens a new chapter in festiwal award’s history. Until now it was conferred to those, who supported our festival. From now on, we would also like to award those, who in creative and innovative way continue festival’s work started in 1988. Karolina is a great example of such a person.
She graduated Culture Studies at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin as well as Jewish Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. In 2008 together with her husband Piotr, they established Brama Cukiermana Foundation in Będzin. Thanks to their efforts, former beit ha-midrash in their city was renovated and became a venue for very active cultural-educational center, offering numerous programs to commemorate Jewish past of the city.

In January 2016 Karolina Jakoweńko started her new job – as a Director of the newly created House of Memory of Silesian Jews.
