From April 16th we start…. The historic house of prayer of the Cukierman family is waiting for you.
But…
It was a busy early spring, because we were preparing a “house in the ghetto” for you, i- the historic home of the ghetto fighters in Będzin. This is an important building for Będzin, whose history we want to reconstruct and bring closer. This house is currently located at ul. Rutki Lakier 24, once Podsiadły, and even earlier Przeczna. The area of the former ghetto in Będzin Kamionka.
A few years ago, the owner of the house, Maria Polak, told us about this place. She recounted the events that took place there in 1942-43. She told about the history of the ghetto, the prison and the bunker that was located in the backyard of her family home. In 1947, Jews who survived the Holocaust hung a plaque commemorating the events of August 1943 there. 2023 marks the 80th anniversary of the liquidation of the Zagłębie ghettos. We will share the story we learned directly from the witness, Mrs. Maria Polak. The owners – Maria’s sister – Anna and her husband Stanisław – gave us a room, in which we will present an exhibition about the history of the place.
